On 1st September 1939 I (aged 12), and 4 of my brothers an sisters were evacuated to Icklesham from Camberwell in London. We were split up, and I went with a couple called Sims. They would have been about 40 (could you judge anyone's age at 12?), and he was a shepherd. They lived in a cottage near the "big house", close to a railway stopping place called Snailham Halt. I have very happy memories of my stay with them: they were childless and I spent about six months there. I think my siblings may have stayed with relatives of theirs. I am now retired to Hove, and am hoping to visit the village during the summer. If anybody who reads this knows of the family I should be very grateful for a reintroduction. Thank you.
